The origin of the beautiful abalone shell.

The abalone shell comes from the sea snail called abalone. The shell does indeed resemble an ear in shape. This ear has a beautiful pearly sheen, which some people associate with the seven colors of the chakras. The rainbow color also represents unity and happiness.

Traditionally, abalone shells were used by Native Americans. They burned herbs in the shells to dispel evil energy and attract friendly, good spirits. Various herbs could be burned to connect with the spirit world. Native Americans burned the herb in an abalone shell or another shell to purify their surroundings. The herbs represented the element of earth, the combustion represented fire, the shell represented water, and the smoke represented the element of air. With the four elements, the ritual was complete.

Burn your own herbs with the abalone shell

The abalone shell has multiple functions. You can perform various rituals with it, or create your own. Its brilliant mother-of-pearl sheen makes it a beautiful piece to display, even if only for decoration.

If you enjoy burning incense cones, Palo Santo wood, or herbs, an abalone shell is perfect for you. It's fireproof and large enough for sprigs like white sage. In ancient Native American rituals, the shell symbolized the element of water. If you want to perform a classic cleansing, it will be complete if you use the abalone shell.

Cleansing and soothing herbs are available in both pure, dried forms and as incense (cones). For example, you often burn sprigs of white sage, and pieces of palo santo wood.
